Plaid Splash at Giants Ridge is more than a closing day celebration. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make history together. On April 4, Giants Ridge will attempt an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Gathering of People Wearing Tartan, turning our iconic spring pond skim into a statewide celebration of community, creativity, and Iron Range pride.

This is a record anyone can help break. No training, no athletic ability, no special gear required. Just show up wearing plaid and be counted. Families, friends, skiers, riders, non skiers, first-timers, lifelong Minnesotans, and visitors from across the country are all welcome. If you can wear plaid, you belong here.

The current world record stands at 1,359 participants. We’re aiming higher, and every registered attendee helps push us closer to the mark. Even better, Giants Ridge will donate $1 for every person officially counted toward the record, up to $2,500, to Biwabik EMS, supporting the local fire and emergency services that keep our community safe.
